IoM TT Superbike Race Monday 8 June 2009

The Superbike race is 6 laps, 226.4miles, 2 pit stops for fuel and a quick drink, just under 2 hours.

The weather was near perfect: warm and sunny but not too hot.

John McGuiness ran away with the lead from start to finish, breaking several records. He overtook Mike Hailwood's number of TT wins and is now second only to the legendary Joey Dunlop.

Ian Lougher completed his 100th TT race finishing 7th.

Dobsy had a steady run. Pit stops were good - thanks to Dave East, Nick Odermatt and Gil Tuffin. He didn't quite manage a 120mph lap - the fastest was lap 4 at 119.5mph. Laps without pit stops were very consistent at 119.2mph, 119.4mph, 119.5mph. Usually the last lap of a race is his quickest but the course was littered with yellow flags for retired bikes. He finished 23rd ahead of arch rival Paul Owen in 29th. He was comfortably inside 110% of the winner's time so he earned another Bronze Replica.

The bike is behaving very well and there won't be any changes before the next race - except that something wore a hole in his boot! Dobsy is feeling more relaxed on the bike assuring me that he is remembering to let go and rest his arms at several points around the course.

All in all, it is an excellent start to race week with everything to look forward to in the Superstock and Senior where he historically does better.
